imam and i
feature documentary - work in progress/process

imam and i is the reason i came to the cape. this is the film about the life, death and legacy of imam abdullah haron, an islamic cleric who was labelled a terrorist by the security police in the 60s, detained in may 1969 and pronounced dead in september of the same year.
the imam was my grandfather and part of the film looks at how a grandson journeys to understand his grandfather when as child his memory is constructed around a mythical martyr figure.
i went into production on the film in 2005 and am now in post. good news is that I have received some funding from the NFVF and can now truck on with finishing the film.

in production as we speak are the animation sequences for the documentary which will form part of the film but will also be a stand alone short film.
the film is commissioned by Rainbow Circle Films as part of their Ikon series.

sathima bea benjamin - a home within

working with Angelita Mills on and off over the last two years on this project has been a real blast. its one of those long time projects that matures each time we meet in the edit.
if you don't know sathima bea benjamin, she is one of cape town and the jazz world's true divas and pure jazz spirits. better known as the wife of
abdullah ibrahim, sathima is a great singer in her own right.
